Congratulations to Dr. Florian Kuchenabuer who just received a 2-year operating grant from Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada.

Title: Therapeutic targeting of the miR-106a-363 cluster in acute myeloid leukemia

Funding Period: Jul 2019 – Jun 2021

Despite improved therapies, the 5-year relative survival for acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is currently 27.4% in the US with especially unfavorable prognosis for elderly patients. Therefore, new treatments that target the root of AML, leukemic stem cells (LSCs), are necessary. Here, we explore targeting LSCs through inhibition of an oncogenic microRNA cluster in combination with Venetoclax and azacytidine, which are currently the standard of care in elderly AML patients.
